The International Finance Corporation (IFC) has announced the top climate finance banks in the Middle East and Turkey region for 2023. Uzpromstroybank has been recognised as "the bank that has contributed the most to the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions".
Reducing the impact of financial activities on the environment is one of the priority areas of Uzpromstroybank's system.
As part of the strategy of Uzbekistan's transition to a green economy, the bank is making extensive use of foreign experience in eco-innovation and green investment.
Together with the IFC, the Bank has studied the "green" market for the development of an environmental and social risk management system, and "green" financial products have been developed for corporate and wholesale entities, as well as small and medium-sized enterprises.
It is worth noting that the IFC's Climate Assessment for Financial Institutions (CAFI) platform is being used effectively to assess green projects.
So far this year, the Bank has financed USD 137 million worth of projects that have been assessed using this programme. As a result, greenhouse gas emissions have been reduced by 45,000 tonnes.
It should be noted that the principles of environmental, social and corporate governance (ESG) are implemented in Uzpromstroybank's system in cooperation with the International Finance Corporation, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, and the Asian Development Bank.
This, in turn, reflects the fact that the Bank has assumed even greater responsibility for ensuring environmental sustainability and protection in the country.
