In recent years, Uzbekistan has been undertaking deep reforms in the construction materials industry. Creating high value-added, export-oriented, and energy-efficient products based on local resources has become one of the top priorities in the country’s industrial policy.
This year, a major project in this direction was launched by “Qoraqalpoq Basaltwool” LLC. In particular, a plant producing thermal insulation mineral wool panels made from basalt stone has been commissioned in the Republic of Karakalpakstan.
The total cost of the project amounts to USD 64 million, of which USD 36.5 million was financed through a credit line from Uzsanoatqurilishbank.
The plant has an annual production capacity of 50,000 tons of finished products. The primary raw material – basalt stone – is extracted from the Tebinbulok deposit in Qaraozak district. As it makes up 95% of the product’s composition, the project stands out not only for its economic but also ecological efficiency.
“Qoraqalpoq Basaltwool” is focused not only on meeting domestic demand. 25% of the plant’s output is intended for export, with the export potential estimated at USD 25 million annually. Additionally, the project is expected to contribute 62 billion UZS to the state budget.
It is worth noting that basalt panels significantly improve energy efficiency in buildings by enhancing both heat and sound insulation. With their application, energy consumption in buildings can be reduced by 30–35%, and the use of cooling systems can drop by up to threefold. Furthermore, basalt insulation materials are fire-resistant and offer excellent protection against moisture and external noise, making them highly competitive in the market.
Currently, 150 permanent jobs have been created. Once the plant reaches full capacity, this number is expected to increase to 300 jobs. This project contributes not only to economic growth but also to regional social stability.
