Building Materials Industry: Growth Rates, New Markets and Energy-Efficient Technologies
13.10.2026 06:49
Growth in the building materials industry is being driven not only by higher production volumes, but also by expanding exports and introducing energy-efficient technologies. These factors are helping to increase the competitiveness of enterprises.
On 13 October, Uzbek Industrial and Construction Bank held a briefing at the Media Content Centre under the Administration of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, where it provided information on efforts to increase the production of high value-added products, expand export markets, save energy and accelerate investment projects in the industry.
Production, investment and exports
In the first nine months of the year, UZS 46.8 trillion worth of building materials were produced in the country, 17.7 percent more than in the same period last year. Exports exceeded USD 1.13 billion, growing 1.4-fold. Under the localisation programme, products worth UZS 4.36 trillion were manufactured.
The growth of the industry is also linked to increased investment.
“In 2026–2027, 269 projects with a total value of USD 6.2 billion are planned in the building materials industry,” says Adham Kuvondikov, Deputy Director of the Building Materials Industry Development Department of JSCB Uzbek Industrial and Construction Bank. “In the first nine months of this year, USD 2.2 billion of foreign investment and loans were disbursed, which is 103.2 percent of the target.”
The funds are being used to launch new production facilities, modernise existing enterprises and introduce modern technologies.
Metal products, PVC and plastic products, Portland cement, aluminium and paper products account for the largest share of exports.
One such enterprise is Azia Metall Prof LLC, which is expanding its production with the financial support of Uzbek Industrial and Construction Bank. In the first nine months of this year, the company exported USD 165.5 million worth of metal sheets, profiles and galvanised steel products to around ten countries.
Energy efficiency as a practical way to reduce costs
The production of building materials, especially cement, is highly energy-intensive. Therefore, efficient energy use is one of the key factors in reducing production costs.
Energy audits were conducted at 34 enterprises with an annual electricity consumption of 1.8 billion kWh. Measures to save 300 million kWh of electricity were identified.
In January–September 2026, 228.2 million kWh of electricity was saved. Of this, 161.5 million kWh came from waste heat recovery technologies, 29.1 million kWh from solar panels and 37.6 million kWh from the installation of reactive power capacitors and other measures.
One of the enterprises using energy-efficient technologies is Tashkent Conch Cement. The plant has installed a solar photovoltaic station with a total capacity of 5,000 kW and launched a 9 MW WHR system.
WHR (Waste Heat Recovery) is a technology that reuses excess heat generated during production. At cement plants, it makes it possible to generate electricity from excess heat. Such technologies reduce dependence on external energy sources, lower production costs and increase product competitiveness.
Mandatory energy audits have been completed at 31 of another 38 enterprises included in the State Energy Register. Audits are ongoing at the remaining 7 enterprises. Based on their results, an additional 9 million kWh of electricity could be saved.
Next task: improving the quality of growth
The further development of the building materials industry depends not only on production volumes, but also on product quality, cost and competitiveness in foreign markets.
Therefore, implementing investment projects on time, increasing the production of high value-added products, expanding localisation and introducing energy-efficient technologies remain important tasks.
Uzbek Industrial and Construction Bank will continue to provide financial support to enterprises in the industry and assist in the implementation of investment projects.
