On 19 October, Tashkent hosted the opening ceremony of the “Oydin Gurunglar – 2026” international creative forum, organised by the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan on the occasion of Uzbek Language Day.
As part of the forum, commercial banks and organisations that have contributed to developing a reading culture, supporting cultural and educational initiatives and broadening public knowledge and outlook were recognised.
At the event, Uzbek Industrial and Construction Bank (SQB) was awarded for its contribution to developing a reading culture by establishing libraries in 17 mahallas (local communities) in Tashkent.
Uzbekistan is paying special attention to developing a reading culture, increasing public interest in books and expanding opportunities for young people to gain knowledge.
SQB supports initiatives in this area. In particular, the libraries established by the Bank in 17 mahallas of Tashkent have been stocked with works of national and world literature, as well as fiction, scientific and historical books.
In addition to promoting reading, these libraries also help improve the financial literacy of residents, especially young people.
In particular, monthly financial literacy classes are held in the libraries as part of the “Financially Literate Mahalla” project implemented at the initiative of the Central Bank.
The classes provide participants with theoretical and practical knowledge on managing personal income and expenses, keeping a family budget, saving money and the basics of investing.
SQB’s activities in this area are aimed at promoting reading, strengthening the educational environment in mahallas and improving the financial literacy of the population.
