On the occasion of Uzbek Language Day, celebrated on 21 October, the Head Office of Uzbek Industrial and Construction Bank (SQB) hosted a cultural and educational event themed “Mother Tongue – the Spirit of the Nation”. It was attended by People’s Poet of Uzbekistan and Chairman of the Writers’ Union of Uzbekistan Sirojiddin Sayyid, representatives of the Union and Bank employees.

During the warm and open discussion, participants spoke about the invaluable role of the native language in preserving the nation’s history, national identity, literary heritage and traditions of statehood. They exchanged views on the spiritual legacy left by great ancestors, the place of Uzbek literature in world civilisation and the importance of respect for the language in raising future generations. Poems recited by Bank employees added a special atmosphere to the event.

“Every year, we celebrate the holiday of our native language with special excitement and joy,” says People’s Poet of Uzbekistan and Chairman of the Writers’ Union of Uzbekistan Sirojiddin Sayyid. “The spiritual strength, national identity and historical memory of a people are reflected, first and foremost, in its language. Our priceless treasure – our native language, refined over centuries – is cherished for its rich literature, great masters and eminent scholars who amazed the world with their words and thought. Preserving it is an honourable duty for each of us, because a people that cherishes its language preserves its identity, history and spiritual roots.”

Reforms aimed at strengthening the role of the Uzbek language in public and social life are reaching a new stage in the country. In particular, the Resolution of the President dated 20 October 2025 “On Additional Measures for the Further Development of the State Language” and Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 437 dated 7 August 2026 set out specific tasks to improve the efficiency of record-keeping in organisations, ensure compliance with legal requirements and strengthen the personal accountability of managers.

Uzbek Industrial and Construction Bank is taking practical steps to implement these documents. Internal regulations, official correspondence, materials in the electronic document management system, as well as documents related to the Supervisory Board, shareholders and international partners are being prepared in the Latin-based Uzbek alphabet.

The Bank is paying greater attention to ensuring that its advertising and information materials, financial product names, customer documents and external signage comply with literary language standards. Efforts are also being made to expand the use of the Uzbek language in ATMs, terminals, information kiosks and software products.

“Respect for the state language is an expression of respect for our national values and of a high sense of responsibility, and it should be reflected in our daily work, record-keeping and communication culture,” says Adham Islomov, Advisor to the Chairman of the Management Board of Uzbek Industrial and Construction Bank on cultural and state language affairs. “That is why the Bank places particular emphasis on ensuring that documents and information materials meet literary language standards and on improving employees’ skills. In particular, nearly one hundred of our specialists have completed special training courses on record-keeping in the state language and received the corresponding certificates.”

The meeting also featured a lively Q&A session. Participants heard the guests’ views on the impact of digital technologies and social media on the language, preserving its purity and richness, and fostering love for the native language among young people. They also received answers to questions about the fluent and clear use of Uzbek in the Bank’s digital services and about strengthening cooperation with writers in this area.
